Daughter's letter to her mother

Dear mom, I know that it is difficult to be fully accountable for making me a better person. I know at times you cry after disciplining me. I know you get to sleep late until everything is cleaned up and ready for the next day. And I know you worry a lot for me.

I know you want a slice of cake too but you said its too sweet so I can have two. I know you said your full just so I can have more. I know you are tired and yet you smile and play with me. I know that your life is difficult but you stay grateful every day because I am enough for you. I know that as you tuck me to bed, you whisper your prayers for me.

Dear Mom, I want you to know that I am well. On nights that you lay in bed tired and wide awake thinking of me, please know that I will be okay. Please know that on days that I am tempted, I remember your instructions. When I get tired and become hopeless, I remember your hard work. On times I failed, I remember your smiles and hugs. I remember that you forget about yourself so I can build myself.

I know you love me even when you are angry and your discipline becomes painful. I know that above all these, your love for me will never fade. I will not disappoint you.

I know that you are happier than I am on days that I came home triumphant. I know the glint in your eyes was pride and those tears are for joy. But mama, please remember that my victory is not mine but yours. It is your success mama because you guided me to be who I am.

When I do my best it was you I remember. I needed you and you endured much. When times get troublesome I remember you. It was tough but you overcame. When I help others I remember you. You taught me to be kind. When I respect others I remember you. You taught me that respecting others is respect for oneself. When I stand up for myself and for others I remember you. You taught me to speak up for what is right and listen to others.

Dear mom, I’m sorry that it took me so long to see you as you are. I know it all now. Thank you for becoming a wonderful mama so I can be too. It’s my turn now.
